Director of Development :: Pumphouse Theatre - Calgary
DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
For more than 37 years, the Pumphouse Theatre Society (PHT) has played a vital role in the development of many emerging performing arts companies in the city; a number of these companies are now well known for their contribution to Calgary’s vibrant performing arts scene. In any given season and despite its small team and lean budget, more than 19 unique arts organizations produce over 40 shows in two theatres – supported by approximately 3,500 volunteers delivering 400 performances to more than 50,000 patrons.
The PHT also serves a broader community role. Recent studies indicate that the arts provide numerous community benefits and PHT has a clear and compelling vision of how it can foster the performing arts in Calgary. With the nature of the programs and services supported by PHT and the fact that Calgary’s demand for the performing arts continues to grow, in 2005 the Board agreed to raise funds for a major expansion and renovation that would see the facility triple in size over the next few years. During the initial phase, the Executive Director assumed the major responsibility for capital fundraising for the expansion; in advance of the launch of public phase of a capital campaign, the company is now seeking a Director of Development to advance its fundraising objectives. Now, as the leading project and arts anchor for the new West Village, the Pumphouse Theatre’s mandate is to provide affordable and accessible theatre to Calgarians through the design of an engaging and accessible facility.
